10:33 AM Mr. Silver
Not sure I understand the reason customers feel the need to waste time saying things like "It worked before."
"Ma'am, that might be relevant if, for example, we'd installed an inert rock, yet the service functioned in spite of that."
On M. Night Shyamalan
10:43 AM Mr. Blue
11:05 AM Mr. Silver
M Night School = win
11:05 AM Mr. Blue
i think criticism towards him is a bit unfair
11:05 AM Mr. Blue
his worst movies still aren't *that* bad
11:05 AM Mr. Silver
Well...people don't like his stories
I wouldn't send him to film school...I'd send him to a writing class
perhaps not even that
A seminar on plot crafting
Directing wise, he's fine
I liked all 4 I saw
11:08 AM Mr. Blue
i liked signs and the 6th sense equally.. heard unbreakable wasn't that great. the village was OK. the happening was OK despite flaws. lady in the water was boring
11:08 AM Mr. Blue
he has his own style
11:08 AM Mr. Silver
His main issue is that he wants to be Hitchcock
and it's not happening
11:11 AM Mr. Silver
He has the same issue that Lovecraft has
11:12 AM Mr. Brown
he had some good ideas bad writing
he should come up with the idea then give it to a good writer to make the story
11:12 AM Mr. Silver
heh
11:13 AM Mr. Blue
most directors just direct, they leave screenwriting to screenwriters
"He’s a real-life slumdog millionaire." - always sunny in philadelphia
11:14 AM Mr. Silver
Well he needs to change his MO a bit
11:15 AM Mr. Blue
"he always puts some awesome twist in his movies.. like in the 6th sense, you find out at the end that the dude in the hair piece was Bruce Willis the *whole* time!"
11:15 AM Mr. Brown
lol
11:15 AM Mr. Blue
they decide to write their own movie..
11:15 AM Mr. Brown
i liked unbreakable
11:16 AM Mr. Silver
me too
rivaled 6th Sense
11:16 AM Mr. Blue
"who's the most underrated actor of all time?" "it's dolph lundgren." "exactly, why?" "because of his ice cold demeanor, his spikey hair and his big muscles." "bingo."
11:16 AM Mr. Brown
yeah i like dolph lundgren
he is one of my fav actors
too bad he cannot get any good movies anymore
11:17 AM Mr. Silver
It came out that he had a genius level IQ and something like a chemistry PhD...he was doomed.
11:19 AM Mr. Silver
Much like Lovecraft does not surprise, almost ever, after you've read a few....
M does not surprise, and the twist doesn't impress
Everyone waits for it, and then...eh
But Lovecraft is still good to read because you and he are winking at each other across 80 years of time.
"Poor main character sap...will he admit the truth or go bonkers?"
"Before they kill him, that is."
11:44 AM Mr. Silver
M needs to give up on the audience twist stuff
Character twist? Sure.
Or just never have the twist...a la The Birds
No twist...no explanation...no decent theories...no hope.
11:49 AM Mr. Blue
personally i'm not crazy about the cohen brothers schtick of always killing off a primary, well-liked character very *early* in a film
or, well, earlier than the very end
but that's their thing that they do
tim burton tends to cram gothy campness into all of your orifices
but that's his thing
11:56 AM Mr. Silver
Yes.
But Burton uses no tricksies that lost impact after film 2
11:57 AM Mr. Blue
true
you would think that once a guy like him gets his name out there and production companies are blowing up his phone, that he would be able to, i don't know.. be absolutely sure that his movies didn't suck
i mean, you know, get top-notch scripts from the best screenwriters in the business. NOT hire marky mark to star in your horror film. stuff like that
11:59 AM Mr. Silver
M should make a film called "The Twist" that doesn't have any in it.
11:59 AM Mr. Blue
lol
11:59 AM Mr. Brown
wow
that is a good twist
lol
people will be like “its coming”
then nothing
11:59 AM Mr. Blue
with previews like "THE ENDING WILL SHOCK AND AWE!"
12:00 PM Mr. Silver
"keep the Secret!"
12:28 PM Mr. Silver
"How does a bike stay up? You can't explain that. It's God." http://arstechnica.com/science/news/2011/04/moving-bikes-stay-uprightbut-not-for-the-reasons-we-thought.ars
1:15 PM Mr. Blue
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodgood_Cutter awesome name
1:35 PM Mr. Silver
yup
2:32 PM Mr. Silver
heheh...looked up Bloodgood Cutter Poems.
Search came up for Bloodgood Cutter | Best Poems
Entry: "There are currently no poems or quotes in this category or published by this author.”
Wow
2:34 PM Mr. Blue
they're all equally crap
2:34 PM Mr. Silver
he has no best
2:40 PM Mr. Silver
This all brings me back to the Highlights...
I'm irritated about the Highlights
2:54 PM Mr. Silver
Still thinking of sending it home, sterilizing the contents and putting it somewhere
'y'know?
(Wink Wink) -- Mr. Silver
On the Star Wars RPG we're playing occasionally
12:43 PM Mr. Yellow
we are very very close to Order 66 in the Star Wars game
12:45 PM Mr. Silver
And contributed significantly to allowing it to happen (botching key events as Jedi characters -- Mr. Silver)
12:46 PM Mr. Yellow
haha yes we have done our jobs well
we have served the Force to the best of our abilities as it strives to bring back balance between the light and the dark
12:48 PM Mr. Silver
“The Force doesn't like to be used”
Killing all the big users off
yeah, that's it
12:49 PM Mr. Yellow
well the light side has been dominate for over 1000 years. It is out of balance and needs to be restored
The reason the Jedi did not see it coming is because they were part of the forces plans.
Anikin is the chosen one. he does bring balance to the Force and His son changes the way the jedi operate in the future
12:52 PM Mr. Yellow
The Prophecy was correct it was just not interpreted by either the jedi or the Sith correctly
The sith thought they would rule for 10,000 years but instead it was more like 20 years
those damn midiclorians scheming away for millions of years playing with other species lives just like a game of chess. We are all pawns to the midiclorians
12:55 PM Mr. Silver
quite a balance...1000 years of good, 20 bad
12:55 PM Mr. Yellow
well evil is more powerful and was able to bring about the balance more quickly
ok not more powerful
but clearer of purpose and focus. They do not sit around discussing everything in committees. One guy is in charge and makes the rules. Way more efficient
1:00 PM Mr. Silver
Or...on a genetic timescale, they were close enough that the Force didn't care.
1:01 PM Mr. Yellow
or George Lucas never thought that far ahead when he made the movies
1:03 PM Mr. Silver
(touches nose)
